Eating around the world in the Jalon Valley.

When you make the move to a new life in a new country it is really fulfilling to embrace the changes and experience the culture. Spanish food is wonderful and varies greatly from region to region.  Of course, there are some excellent restaurants on your doorstep, but we just love to jump in the car midweek and try something different. Although the smaller pueblos have some lovely eateries, a short drive will offer up some hidden gems. This week we fancied a taste of Italy.  We tend to be impulsive and this little place in Jesus Pobre, has been fully booked the last few times I rang. I hit lucky this time!

La Tasca- Top drawer Italian food.

We tried this one for the first time this week and it is firmly on our list of favourite places to go for good food and Rest and Relaxation. In the pretty little Spanish pueblo of Jesus Pobre next to beautiful historic church, this little gem is full every night, so book in advance.  The courtyard is rustic and cozy and there is great live music on Wednesday and Thursday evening. The food is exceptional with some traditional dishes and some that have been developed by the chef and loved by the customers, most of whom were regulars.

We started by sharing a "Burrata", mozzarella filled with creamy ricotta, topped with basil, olive oil and accompanied by bruschetta with tomato. Have a whole one to yourself at your peril! One of our party had "Vitello Tonato", an Italian speciality with thinly sliced veal and a sauce with tuna, delicious!

The pasta is home made and my goodness you can taste the difference! Choose your pasta and your sauce to be made to measure. The filled raviolis are delicious. The goats cheese and pumpkin ravioli with butter and crispy sage was heavenly.

Much more than pasta, this menu has something for everyone. There are vegetarian dishes and vegan fare too, so many lovely surprises for every palate. The Iberican pork was cooked to perfection and the fish dishes sounded incredible. Even the dessert menu had a treat for me. Crepes Suzette, a retro surprise, I was delighted to try. It finished me off nicely!

The whole evening was an absolute treat, the service faultless and the ambiance was casual and relaxed. The live music is lovely, jazz influences and a fantastic harmonica, but never intrusive. So you can chat with your companions or not, depending on how you feel.

Close to the larger Spanish town of Gata de Gorgos, Jesus Pobre is a little town well worth a visit. The Sunday artisan market is charming. Jacaranda Spain has several prime properties in this location. https://www.jacarandaspain.com/property/294/finca-for-sale-in-lliber-1413.html and we will be planning on taking new friends and future buyers there in the coming weeks.

La Tasca is NOT cheap, but it IS worth every penny more than you would pay for your regular Italian meal. This is an Italian restaurant with attitude and not a pizza in sight. We recommend it unreservedly. LA TASCA
