The Peace and Tranquillity of a Rural Location, yet Minutes away from the Beach!

Here at Jacaranda Spain, we list property in a variety of locations, most of which are within the beautiful Marina Alta. Country estates, mountain retreats, luxury villas with sea views and the list goes on. A lot of foreign buyers come looking with a long wish list, that often has to be modified when the buyer realises that the properties that tick all their boxes, are priced in the 2-3 million bracket! However, you can often have almost everything with a few compromises- and that is why we, the team at Jacaranda Spain, are here.

One of the compromises is often the location. Perhaps you imagine waking up to the sound of the waves and strolling down to the beach for a morning swim? The reality is that there are not many properties, with this location, that are within most of our budget ranges. So, what if you wake up to complete peace and serenity, have a coffee, on your completely private terrace, whilst the sun rises above the mountains? Then jump in your car and have your morning swim in the sea, within 12 minutes? When the rest of the holiday crowd arrives, you retreat to your peaceful paradise, away from the madding crowd! 

One of the best locations to do just that is a small traditional Spanish village, located just over 10 minutes from the coast, called Beniarbeig. This charming little Spanish pueblo has so much to offer. It has a fantastic location, perfect for really having the best of both worlds, the authentic Spanish lifestyle with the buzz of coastal resorts within easy reach.

Beniarbeig is also rich in history and the villagers are proud of that, yet they welcome their new foreign neighbours with open arms. The people here are wonderfully friendly, something that always strikes me when we visit. One of our favourite little Italian eateries is in Beniarbeig- Basilico. The best Melanzane Parmigiana I have ever tasted (if you order it, share it, or don´t order anything else!) 

We always have a drink at the local, Bar Llar del Jubilat, which does amazing bocadillos and sandwiches. The tables outside are in a plaza which is usually full of local people socialising with their children or playing Petanque. This wonderful Spanish lifestyle is something that is not so easy to find in the coastal towns. 

The 18th century Baroque church of Sant Joan Baptista (St John the Baptist) is simply stunning and the village has a charming medieval appeal. The Fiestas Patronales (the fiestas of the patron saints of the town) are the last week of August and it is so special to join the local people in their festivities, where they pray to the towns patron saints,  (Sant Joan and Sant Roc), host music evenings (traditional and modern rock and pop), traditional dances, Paella Gigante (a huge paella that feeds the whole town) and many activities for the kids. The bridge over the Girona River is famous, although rather unassuming. It was built to replace the original, which was washed away when the river burst its banks during the floods of 2007. The collapse happened while the national news reporters were filming, so it happened on live TV and became a symbol of the Gotafría, which affected all of the Costa Blanca. 

The pueblo of Beniarbeig has everything you need to make it the perfect location to live permanently, if you are looking to relocate. However, it also makes for the ideal spot for a holiday home. This way you have a choice about how to spend your well earned leisure time. The area is very popular with walkers and cyclists, with flat plains around vast citrus groves and mapped mountain walks within easy reach. The next day you could drive to the beautiful, golden, sandy beaches at Les Deveses, spend the morning relaxing and swimming in the sea and have lunch on the tree-lined, Marques de Campo in Denia. 

The following day you could drive further inland and explore the other, pretty little pueblos and historic towns of the Marina Alta. On the rare occasion that the weather is not good, you can drive to Portal de la Marina shopping centre in just over 5 minutes. However, most importantly of all, you could choose to stay home and enjoy the total peace and serenity of your perfect rural retreat!
