A Gem on the Benissa Costa- Playa de La Fustera!

Here at Jacaranda Spain, we appreciate that our buyers searching for their dream home in Spain often have a specific “wish list” when they start their search. Often at the top of the list is-  “a coastal location with sea views”. Based in the Marina Alta, we have some of the most beautiful coastal towns and resorts in Spain on our doorstep. Calpe, Moraira, Javea, Denia and Altea all started as small fishing villages and have evolved into cosmopolitan resorts with huge numbers of holiday makers and exclusive residential areas. These towns are perfect to visit for a day at the beach, shopping or fine dining. As for house hunting, if you want to be “in the thick” of the hustle and bustle with Blue Flag beaches, boutique style shopping centres, stunning marinas, a multitude of international restaurants and buzzing nightlife, you are spoilt for choice!

However, if it is a coastal location you want, but with a more peaceful environment, (perhaps still within easy reach of the bright lights), you need look no further than the Benissa Costa. Situated right in the middle between Calpe and Moraira, Benissa Costa gives you the best of both worlds. Close enough to access the bright lights but equally- far enough away! The coastline is rugged and dramatic but there are some stunning coves to discover, which remain quiet and unspoiled. 

Playa de la Fustera is the gem of the Benissa Costa. Nestled between two rocky outcrops and only a 10 minute drive from Calpe, or a 12 minute drive from Moraira. Although it is small it has everything you want in a family beach. The sand is kept immaculate in the summer months and the sea is crystal clear.

From June to September, there is a lifeguard on duty and services for those with mobility challenges (easy access to the beach and an amphibious chair bathing service from 10am to 8pm). There are opportunities to hire kayaks and paddle boards and the “Posidonia Oceanica” is an underwater meadow that is established, providing a perfect underwater ecosystem, a huge attraction for snorkellers.

The Paseo Ecológica is a beautiful coastal walk, starting 5 minutes walk from La Fustera Beach, 3km in length and leading to Playa de la Fossa, in Calpe. There are stunning views along the way too!

The area around Playa La Fustera is peaceful, largely residential, with a couple of bar/restaurants. Mandala Beach Bar is directly behind the beach and, although they stipulate no swimwear in the restaurant, most of the customers are straight from the beach. Mandala has a lovely ambience and an extensive menu with; a great selection of tapas, salads, pastas and paellas, as well as sandwiches, snacks and hamburgers. There is also a great kids menu and very good cocktails. 

If you are lucky enough to live in the Marina Alta, Playa de la Fustera is a stunning beach to go and spend the day. Even in the height of summer, there is still space. We recommend going early or late and combine it with a leisurely lunch or a beautiful sunset dinner at Mandala Beach Bar. Always book your table, especially in the summer months!

If you are starting the search for your new dream home in Spain, we would urge you to consider the Benissa Costa carefully. Often overlooked in favour of other towns on the Costa Blanca, we think Benissa and its coastline are equally as beautiful, but don´t tell everyone!
