A magnificent townhouse located in the very heart of the vibrant, yet quintessentially Valencian, Spanish town of Jalón ( the towns true Valenciano name is Xaló), not more than a 3 minute walk from the stunning Plaza Mayor.

This beautiful townhouse is one of the oldest houses in the town, built in the early 1800´s, and not only has the building stood the test of time, but it has perfectly retained its historic integrity and personality. The property has been lovingly maintained and preserved over the years and, although there have been modern updates, the authentic, character defining features of the original house are still here; from the solid wood double doors at its entrance,…

… wall and floor tiling, the original water well, which makes an amazing feature, and some of original windows and doors. 

A stand out feature to the house is the impressive stone walled courtyard. Three separate areas provide lovely outdoor living spaces with many possibilities; ample space to create an outdoor kitchen or even a plunge pool to cool off in the height of summer. 

The current owners, Lisa and Bo from Sweden, fell in love with the area and bought this incredible house in 2011. Five years later they decided to make the move a permanent one, and moved over “lock stock and barrel” in 2016. 

Many of the original townhouses these days are being bought to be reformed and a lot of them have been updated to look more contemporary. If the property is derelict and hasn´t been preserved, a modern renovation can be stunning. The townfolk have mixed feelings about this, they are happy to see the old derelict properties restored but even happier when that means they are returned to their former glory. This house has been owned by some very important people in Jalón and has been very much loved. The older Spanish tradesmen have told the same story to Lisa and Bo; of the incredible “Tia Maria” (that´s Aunt Mary in English, not a sweet liqueur), who owned the house many years ago and was much loved by the local people.   

The house has a wonderful sense of history and yet feels very much like a home.

This is a home for a big family, those with extended family or just for those who value space. There is a fabulous roof terrace, with vistas across the roof tops of the town. It is a great spot to watch the sun go down with a chilled glass of the locally produced wine. It also provides an interesting possibility- to extend the house upwards. Some of the neighbouring properties have already done so and have built an extra level of living accomodation.

When Lisa and Bo relocated permanently, their vision included becoming Bed and Breakfast hosts. The house was more than big enough to accommodate them and it lent itself perfectly to the task. The area is very popular with walkers and cyclists, who come each year to enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the valley and surrounding mountains. A lot of the guests became regular visitors, people who wanted to experience the Spanish lifestyle, rather than lie by a swimming pool and acheive a perfect suntan! Lisa and Bo ran a successful business from the house until 2023 with the appropriate tourist licence and mandatory elements. As the property has been equipped with all the safety equipment and furnishings required as standard to operate a guest house, it would be easy to restart the business if the new owners of the house want to apply for the licence once again.
