Local News | Senija- A Spanish pueblo not to be overlooked and an exciting new listing!
The Spanish pueblo of Senija- a perfect village for a Spanish lifestyle!
The Valle de Pop is a beautiful rural corner of Spain, referred to by us foreigners as the Jalon Valley (which is not an official name!). Up until 1991 the Valley included only the pueblos of Benigembla, Murla, Alcalalí and Parcent but in 1991 the “Mancomunidad de los pueblos del Valle de Pop” (Commonwealth of the villages of the Pop Valley) was formed and the pueblos of Jalón, Senija, Llíber and Castell de Castells were added.

The team here at Jacaranda spain have recently added a great new property to the portfolio, in the pueblo of Senija. This pretty little village, which covers only 4.8km2, is one of those “blink and you miss it” villages, for those who have explored the valley. The road that leads through Senija is the CV745, CV standing for Communidad Valenciana, and these regional highways are to connect the villages and towns. In truth, most people on the road through Senija are passing through, on their way to Llíber and Jalón or, in the other direction, Benissa.

However, we, the team at Jacaranda Spain, think Senija is an undiscovered gem and the next time you are passing through, to go and do your shopping in Benissa, you should park up and go and have a wander. The first thing that strikes you is the wall art. The village has become a mecca for those tourists and artists alike who come to admire the villages spectacular wall murals.

These fabulous murals have been painted to depict village life and the residents are very proud of them. They show the agriculture of the region and the life of the villagers. The “M.O.S.” initiative (the Museu Obert de Senija - open air museum of Senija) has been created to promote nature, calm and harmony, encouraging those who live here or are just passing through, to appreciate the natural landscape and the people who work here, past and present.

There are also more modern works, and the mural of the cyclist, which strikes you as you enter the village from Benissa to Llíber, has attracted cyclists in their droves who want to take a photograph or selfie with it as a backdrop.
In addition to its recently acquired works of art, this precious little village has a fascinating history. Up to the 16th century the town was occupied by the Moors, until the expulsion in 1535. The town was repopulated with only 33 Christian families and the population still totals under 700 people. Only 30% of the population are non-native residents, compared with most of the pueblos in the Marina Alta, which have at least 50% foreign residents. This means that Senija has an authentic Spanish feel, as well as a wonderful sense of community, although they are very happy to welcome new residents. We would encourage everyone to take a closer look at this pretty little village. There is more to it than meets the eye!

If you are searching for your dream home in Spain and your priorities are rural peace, tranquility and a spanish lifestyle, Senija is pretty much perfect. Furthermore, you are still within very close proximity to the busy town of Benissa, which is less than a five minute drive and the coastal towns of Calpe and Moraira are around 20 minutes away.
Take a look at this newly listed three bedroom country villa, with a large plot of just under 2,000m2 and an independent guest apartment. It is also within walking distance to the village of Senija;

This lovely country house has everything you could wish for and lots of scope to make it your own. A large part of the plot has been left natural and it has potential to be a super kitchen garden. You can walk into the village for a coffee and a fresh “barra de pan”, and become part of the wonderful community in Senija.
