Local News | Pedreguer- A prime location for a new life in Spain!
Pedreguer- An inland town not to be overlooked!
At Jacaranda Spain, as trusted real estate agents, we are often tasked with recommending the right area for buyers looking to relocate from other parts of the world. Unless you have spent significant time in the Marina Alta and done a lot of research, most people would not know where to start. That is where your agent comes in. It is important to consider your wish list and your family circumstances in order to filter out the towns or villages that would not work for you. So, for example, you might wish for peace and tranquility above all else, but if you have young children you must be reasonably close to schools and leisure facilities etc.
The town of Pedreguer is one of the largest of the inland towns in the Marina Alta. With a population of nearly 9,000, you can be sure that there is reliable infrastructure, schools for all ages, banks, a large medical centre, shops and supermarkets and superb sports and leisure facilities. The surrounding countryside is rugged and mountainous which serves to attract cyclists and walkers looking for mapped routes through the Marina Alta and the Costa Blanca. Stunning real estate properties here offer elevated positions, often with incredible views and easy access to primary roads. Access to the AP-7 motorway to Alicante or Valencia is only 5 minutes away and the beautiful, sandy Blue Flag beach of Les Deveses from Denia to Oliva is 15 minutes away. So, in terms of a town that is close to everything, they don´t come better than this.

If you live in the area, the road through Pedreguer takes you to the Portal de la Marina shopping centre, and you would be forgiven for not really noticing the town, as the road through it is rather unremarkable. In fact most people would admit to never having visited Pedreguer Old Town area, which is a shame as it is absolutely charming.

Pedreguer has a relatively low number of expat residents compared to most of the towns and villages in the Marina Alta, possibly because those who relocate tend to choose either; coastal areas or inland rural areas. Pedreguer falls in between, in fact it is half way between Xaló (Jalón), known as the rural capital of the Valle de Pop, and Denia, which is the biggest, traditional, coastal town on the Costa Blanca. Here at Jacaranda Spain, we think this is a crucial factor in making Pedreguer perfect location-wise, close proximity to the beach and nightlife, yet you get more for your money when you buy a property only 10-15 minutes inland.
The highly desirable La Sella development is 7 minutes drive from the town centre and the La Sella Marriot Golf Course and Spa is a 14 minute drive. The golf course is a 27 hole golf resort designed by Masters champion José Maria Olazábal. It is the largest course on the Costa Blanca and is renowned for the quality of the greens, all year round. The course is overlooked by the Denia Marriott, a 5 star hotel and spa.
Also in the La Sella development is the Jardin de L´albarda. Owned by FUNDEM which is an organisation for the conservation of Mediterranean flora and fauna. The gardens are spectacular, with 50,000m2 of rustic gardens with 700 species of flora including roses and native palms. There is a classic “Renaissance” garden which is meticulously manicured and preserved. In addition, there are places to sit and reflect in complete privacy with pergolas for shade and a café (which sells an amazing carrot cake).

The Industrial Poligon “Les Galgues”, just outside the centre of town is where the famous, Pedreguer Rastro is held every sunday. This is a huge fleamarket where you can buy antiques, furniture, leather goods, new and second hand clothing, fresh baked goods, artisan products and more. This is a market, not just for tourists but for serious shoppers.
In addition, Pedreguer has a fabulous sports centre and municipal swimming pool and there are some excellent bars and restaurants within the town. There are regular buses to Denia and Javea and hospitals are only 10-20 minutes away. Pedreguer fiestas are legendary, everyone takes part and there is a wonderful community atmosphere.
