Benigembla- A sleepy Spanish pueblo of history, scenic walks and street art.
The beautiful Spanish village of Benigembla is one of the pueblos in the Valle de Pop (Jalon Valley) that we, the team at Jacaranda Spain, love to promote. It has so much to offer those searching for a new home and lifestyle. If it is busy bars and bright lights you want, Benigembla is not for you. This is a typically sleepy Spanish town, where the pace of life is decidedly unhurried. In the height of summer, during siesta hours you could walk through the town and think it had been deserted.
Benigembla is nestled at the foot of the Sierra del Cavall Verd (Green Horse mountain) and is surrounded by vineyards, citrus groves and stunning scenic walking trails with breathtaking views.
The narrow streets of the pueblo are lined with stunning traditional townhouses and there is a real sense of history. In fact, a stroll around the town may surprise you!
-The parish church of Sant Josep dates back to the 18th century and it stands proud next to the Baroque style bell tower.
- The stunning neoclassical “Sindicat” was built in 1925 and is now used as the cultural and civic center for the town.
-The town is also famous for having the largest number of Riu Raus. These agricultural buildings were constructed to dry the Moscatel grapes to produce raisins, which were the towns main produce throughout the 19th century.
-El Safareig is the ancient village laundromat. It has been carefully preserved and is now a recreation area for the villagers, with a picnic and barbecue area.
-The Parc Botaníc del Ribas is a protected biodiversity site by the river Gorgos which is home to trees over 100 years old and rare Mediterranean flora.
Benigembla is also a Museum of Interactive Art! Famous for its street art murals, the town holds a yearly summer festival that welcomes graffiti artists from all over the world who come to paint. There are some truly spectacular murals to look for.
Benigembla is full of surprises. If you didn´t want to venture far, it has all your everyday amenities and if you want bigger supermarkets, a 15 minute drive will get you to the larger towns of Orba and Jalón. As for the beach, just over 30 minutes and you are on the sandy beaches of Calpe or Denia.
Here at Jacaranda Spain, we are always happy to list property in and around this extraordinary pueblo. One that we recently added to our portfolio, is a charming modern townhouse that would work equally well as a permanent home or a great holiday bolthole. Take a closer look;
