Spain News | Benidoleig- A Spanish lifestyle in rural Spain, 14 minutes from the beach!
Benidoleig- An idyllic rural location with mountains and coast within easy reach!
The Marina Alta is a stunning part of Valencia that includes 33 municipalities. These include tiny villages and larger towns, both on the coast and inland. Some are on the coast and enjoy spectacular views of the Mediterranean sea, and some are more inland with valley views and dramatic, mountain backdrops.
People choose to relocate to the Marina Alta for many different reasons. Some want to be near the sea and will want to look for their dream home in Javea, Moraira and Denia. Some are looking for countryside retreats, far away from the hustle and bustle of the holiday resorts. Here at Jacaranda Spain, we are finding that, more and more often these days, our clients seek peace and tranquility above all else. Of course it is possible to find peace and still have your sea view, but this property will only suit those with a very generous sized budget!
Our advice to those who want the best of both worlds is to broaden their horizons and travel inland… by only 10-15 minutes! One of the villages which enjoys stunning views of the valley across to the majestic Montgo Mountain and, from an elevated position, the coastline of the Costa Blanca and the Mediterranean sea, is Benidoleig.
Benidoleig is uniquely located. It enjoys a rural setting in predominantly agricultural land. Olive and almond groves, vineyards and fruit orchards with mainly citrus fruits. There are foreign settlers from all over the world but Benidoleig retains its Valencian traditions and customs. The village itself has narrow, winding streets of traditional, Spanish townhouses and the stunning, historic church and bell tower of Sangre de Cristo.
This charming little pueblo has everything you need. There are all the shops for your everyday amenities, a post office, pharmacy and a junior school, as well as a weekly produce market on Thursdays for the freshest, locally sourced fruit and veg. There are also some great bars and restaurants. Bar Ballesta is the local for most Spanish and expat residents. Excellent tapas and a menu del día, at very reasonable prices. Also, nestled in a street in the centre of the village is a hidden gem. Gastrotaberna El Temple, for gourmet style tapas, with a difference and a great veggie and vegan choice too. https://gastrotabernaeltemple.com/carta/
A 5 minute walk outside the village takes you to the Cueva de las Calaveras (Cave of Skulls), a great way to spend a few hours in a blissfully quiet setting. The cave is 900 metres long and has some spectacular stalactites and stalagmites. It is so called because of the 12 sets of human remains found in it in the 17th century. Fossils and tools have also been found that date back to Neanderthal man. The cave is well worth a visit, just for the sense of peace, and it is a very reasonable, 4.90 euros entrance fee. You can book online https://cuevadelascalaveras.com/en or on arrival.

With all of this, and more, you don´t need to go far. However, if you want a change of scenery, Benidoleig is ideally located to explore the whole of the Marina Alta. The larger towns of Beniarbeig and Orba with bigger supermarkets and banks are a 7 minute drive away. The cosmopolitan, coastal town of Denia is a 20 minute drive and (and this is the really good news!) you can hop in your car and be at the beach within 14 minutes! If you are searching for an authentic Spanish lifestyle in a quiet pueblo, off the beaten track (but not too far off it!) Benidoleig could be the perfect location for you.
If Benidoleig has piqued your interest as a relocation prospect and you like the village community, rural aspect, knockout views and close proximity to everything, we have ALL of that in one fabulous property! Take a closer look;
