Here at Jacaranda Spain, we are forever regaling our friends and clients with the virtues of Spanish townhouses. At one time, the "casa de pueblo" (townhouse) was not promoted as the number one option for foreign buyers. Most expats looking to relocate, in the past, had an uncompromising wish list that most houses, located within a village or town, could not fulfill. Most townhouses have a small amount of outdoor space and very few have a swimming pool, two of the high priorities for most people who wanted a dream home in Spain.

We are finding nowadays, however, that people are more open to the idea. A townhouse gives you instant integration into the Spanish lifestyle. You immediately become part of the community. Even the smaller pueblos have lovely outdoor spaces and parks for all ages. Nearly all of them have community swimming pools, which double as social centres, where people spend a few hours each day,  throughout the summer months and into autumn, mixing with other families and promoting village, community spirit. And the truly beautiful thing is.. you can go days without getting in your car!

Our new property is located in Llíber. In fact, it is situated at the top of the plaza mayor, right next to the church. It takes the corner spot on a beautiful paved street.

..Turn left and you walk up to the "Calvario", a beautiful walkway that takes you up through the stations of the cross,

and to beautiful views from the Mirador- a viewing platfom for the valley!

The developer has undertaken a stunning reform with this townhouse. The architect and designers were tasked with the project of restoring the original features of this historic building and creating contemporary living spaces.

The main house is subject to an extensive reform.  The traditional thick, interior walls have been taken out to create more space and to maximise natural light. The spaces are defined with archways which add rustic character, as opposed to a minimalistic, open plan style. On the upper level there are two bedrooms, a bathroom and a lounge area that has direct access to a roof terrace.

The small pueblo of Llíber is an absolutely idyllic place to live. Nobody walks past without a smile, an "hola", "buenos días" or "bon día". There is a health centre, social centre, townhall, primary school (the secondary school is in Jalón, 15 min walk or 5 min drive), kids play park and a fabulous new community swimming pool. There are a few tapas bars in the plaza, a butcher, baker, pharmacy and a small village store. All of these are within a two minute walk to this property!

Everything is on your doorstep, you can step out for a morning coffee in the plaza, buy fresh bread every morning, pass the time of day with your neighbours and become accomplished in Spanish! ( Passable is good enough and the locals are happy to help you with that. Most of them speak a modicum of English anyway!)

Llíber is very popular with walkers, climbers and cyclists. The village is within a network of stunning, country, hiking trails and cycling routes take you to the coastal and inland routes, popular with professional cycling teams from all over the world. The coastal town of Calpe and the nearest Blue Flag beach, is an easy 20 minute drive, so the hustle and bustle of the holiday resorts is within easy reach. Anyone who lives here will tell you how nice it is to drive back into the village after a day in the "madding crowd".
