Property News | A townhouse with history in Alcalalí

A chance to live in a house with history, character and a stunning village location!

The agents at Jacaranda Spain are always busy adding new property. At the present time we are listing lots of fabulous new builds near the coast. A lot of foreign buyers want to be near the sea and they want modern design, clean lines, minimalistic, Ibizan style... As long as they have the budget, we can easily find their dream property within our portfolio!

However, what if you want the opposite of that? History, authentic, Spanish features, character, beautiful old furnishings and fixtures and fittings that, in days gone by, were part of life, and have lived to tell a tale. What if you want to immerse yourself in a Spanish lifestyle, far from the crowds and sunseekers? A place where you can stroll along to a central plaza and sit with the locals for your morning coffee, with a beautiful stone church and belltower as a backdrop?

The stunning medieval Spanish pueblo of Alcalalí

These properties are few and far between and when they do come on the market, they can take a while to sell. We often wish we could convince our buyers that, while the coastal property with the sea view is beautiful,  the history and character of a village townhouse is equally as beautiful. Furthermore, you are only 20 minutes from the nearest beach!

The townhouse we want to share with you today, came to us from a Spanish owner, Eugenia, who now lives in Barcelona. This exceptional townhouse has been in her family for more than a century. A prominent family within the community, they owned several, grand townhouses in the villages in the Marina Alta. Eugenia, sadly, no longer has time to travel from Catalunya to Valencia very often, and it is with some sadness that she has to part with the house.

Viewing the house for the first time was a "hairs on the back of the neck" moment! One has a sense of stepping back in time, a real glimpse into the past. The house is absolutely fascinating and you could spend a day walking round it and still not catch everything. It is full of beautiful pieces of antiquity, not all for sale of course!

The new owner will, no doubt, update and add some modern touches. But we do hope that it will be done with respect to the history and timeless elegance of the house, to contrast and incorporate the numerous, original features. For instance, the working water well in the garden room, which at one time, would have supplied the house with fresh water. These days, it is still useful for washing and watering plants, especially at the present time when we are experiencing water shortages.

The outside space is unusually expansive for a townhouse.

The mature Mediterranean flora give it a very peaceful and private feel and it is big enough to add some modern touches. There is ample space for a small swimming pool or a shaded pergola area to add to the double garage, workshop and a second private entrance to the walled-in plot.

To top it all off, there is a gorgeous roof terrace, to enjoy the lovely views across the rooftops of the village, the countryside and on to the mountains.

The new owner will know the minute they step into it, that this is the house for them. If you have vision, you can see how this house, beautiful as it is, could be absolutely enchanting!  The Spanish romance and charm, the stunning, village setting, the superb outside living space.

If this house, on paper, ticks your boxes... we challenge you to visit it and NOT fall under it´s spell!
