Les Deveses- A great family beach day out!

The Costa Blanca is home to some of the best beaches in Spain. You could pick a new one every day throughout the summer and there would still be plenty left over. The coastline, north of the beautiful, coastal town of Denia and as far as the Spanish town of Oliva, has more than 20km of mostly, white sandy beaches. There are chiringuitos (beach bars) at regular intervals in the summer but large stretches are pretty deserted for most of the year. Even in the height of summer it is easily possible to find a really quiet spot.

We all have different priorities when it comes to a day at the beach. Whether you want peace and quiet or a busy chiringuito to have a cold beer, some lunch or an ice cream. Soft white sand, or stones to avoid the dreaded sand in your sandwiches. Waves and wind for sport or shallow, calm sea for the kids to play... If you do the right research you will find the perfect day out for you and your family.

Here at Jacaranda Spain, we often get asked for beach recommendations. When it comes to a family, child friendly beach with clean white sand and sea that often looks like a mill pond, we always recommend the beautiful, "Blue Flag" awarded beach of "Les Deveses" in Denia. This beach is more than 4km long. With soft white sand and shallow, crystal clear water, backdropped by sand dunes. There are several access points to the beach and parking is not usually a problem, so you can park nearby and not have to carry your cool box too far!

 The beach is cleaned every morning in the summer and there are lifeguard points, red cross first aid stations, wheelchair access points and foot showers. There is always a welcome breeze along this stretch of the coast, which makes it also perfect for sports. Early in the morning the beach is popular with walkers and joggers and there are minifutbol and volleyball courts. The shallow sea means that the wind and kite surfers can practice at a safe distance from the families and their inflatables.

This beach is popular with Spanish families, and that is your best recommendation. You will often see families of more than ten, from babies to grandparents. There are lots of restaurants within close proximity, but most folks here bring their own food and drink. They come with big cool boxes, parasols, folding tables and chairs. The tables are laid out with Spanish tortilla, big crusty bocadillos and there is always a huge, juicy watermelon, as well as, cold drinks and beers for the adults. We should emphasize, if you see anyone staggering about drunk, it won´t be a local and you are more likely to be in Benidorm.

The beach of Les Deveses has something for everyone. Idyllic on a sunny, winter morning with only the fishermen and other walkers for company. In the summer, it is a joyous place to enjoy the day with likeminded people. To relax, enjoy the sea and the company of your companions.
