La Nave Muebles- Opening a treasure trove!

Here at Jacaranda Spain, we like to think we do more than just sell property. Of course, that is our business, but we are always happy to share with our clients and friends any local businesses, or services, that we have tried and tested ourselves and found to be worth recommending.

We were recently invited to the launch of a new business. The business is furniture, more specifically, rustic furniture and the story of the birth of this business, is incredible!

The story began with clients who became friends, namely Kenny and Pia from Denmark. Kenny is in the construction business and Pia is running a successful, online, consulting company. They relocated to Spain a few years ago in search of a new adventure and a much more relaxed lifestyle. The couple are still establishing and prioritzing their time. "Our intention was to kick back a little from the stresses that our work commitments gave us in Denmark".

They still work hard, because they love what they do, but they are very careful to leverage their time. One of the things that they decided they wanted to change, was working from home. "We both needed an office and, although we have ample space at home, and it worked for a while, we decided we wanted to keep home as our haven, somewhere we can switch off totally from the noise of everyday life.

Kenny and Pia also saw an opportunity to rent space big enough to create "co-working office space". This is a modern concept in which office space is rented by a number of different organisations, with all office services and amenities, but with flexible hours and lease agreements. This enables businesses to keep expenditure to a minimum, yet still retain a sense of entrepreneurial community.

With that in mind, they found office premises that were available to rent. When they went to view the office space, the owner of the building told them that his health had not been good and he would not be able to clear out the building. " He was very apologetic and we felt like the least we could do would be to clear it ourselves, to help him."

When Kenny and Pia collected the keys, they went, with some trepidation, to see how many skips were to be ordered and if they would need to hire a team of industrial cleaners with heavy duty equipment. After all, the doors had barely been opened for two decades!

They opened up the premises and were stopped in their tracks! What they had slated as a storage facility under the offices was a small warehouse, and not only that, it was full of furniture. "As we wandered around this store room, wondering how on earth we were going to clear it, we quickly became aware that, far from the rotting old boxes we had imagined, this was a mountain of stunning, rustic pieces that definitely should not be destined for a skip!"

Kenny and Pia sat down together and re-thought their business model. The furniture rescue turned into something of a passion. "We just wanted to see these beautiful pieces go to good homes"!

Every piece had to be professionally restored and cleaned and this was to prove time consuming, every day, for months!

The end result however, and we are sure you will agree when you visit, is worth it. The furniture comes from Morrocco, Spain, India and Holland. The project has ignited a passion with Kenny and Pia, who are now planning a journey around rural France to source more vintage pieces.

The stock, for interior and exterior styling, includes; Large, solid wood cupboards, dining tables and chairs, coffee tables and book cases, blanket boxes and chests, vintage, original doors salvaged from Spanish, town and country houses, antique curios and bric-a-brac, hand carved chairs and benches, brass lamps and Morroccan style wall lights, unique candle holders... and the list goes on.

As much as "La Nave Muebles" was never really part of the plan, Kenny and Pia were always passionate about construction and design and it seems fortuitous that the furniture found them. They have discovered a gap in the market here in the Vall del Pop, aka Jalon valley. There are furniture shops in the larger towns of Denia and Javea but none that specialise in this kind of rustic, statement piece. Most of the pieces are a "one off" original.

Kenny and Pia invite you to go along and browse. "People come in, browse for hours and leave with a candlestick. Some come and fill their new Spanish home with beautiful pieces. Even if you leave with nothing, we hope at least, we can inspire you. We welcome everyone to come along and be part of the story."

There is a piece of treasure that was destined to fill a corner of your home with a touch of character and charm.

Furthermore, the pieces in the store now, have waited a long time to be discovered, to find a home and to be treasured by your family for years to come!

The store is open to view;

Wednesday-Friday 11 am-5 pm

Saturday 11 am- 2 pm
