Why is solar power the future?

Not so long ago, here in the offices at Jacaranda Spain, we would have advised our clients to think carefully about whether the cost of installing a solar energy system was worth it. The cost of installation was high and, in real terms, it would be years before the savings would justify it. In addition, solar energy systems were not on many prospective buyers wish lists, so it didn´t add any notable value to a property.

Nowadays however, our question is more likely to be "can you afford NOT to install solar power?"

Reasons why solar energy is the way forward.

- Economical- The cost of installation of these systems has continued to fall and, once it is installed, it is virtually free to operate and maintain. Indeed, the cost of installing a solar enegy system has fallen by 70% in the past 10 years! These systems can reduce your energy bills by between 50% and 70%.

Gone is the argument that it is not worth the financial outlay! It doesn´t make sense to solely, number crunch the cost and benefits. Yes, it may take a few years to recuperate the outlay but, we now know that a solar energy system ADDS VALUE to your property. Here at Jacaranda Spain, we have noted it to be one of the first questions a buyer asks about a property these days!

- Ecological- The harvesting of energy from the sun produces ZERO pollutants and ZERO greenhouse gases. The burning of fossil fuels produces; carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and other particulates that directly cause damage to our respiratory systems and general health, not to mention the environment around us. Furthermore, fossil fuels have to be mined, causing yet more pollution and damage to our planet.

There is no such damage during the harvesting of solar power.

- Reliable and dependable- Solar power, harvested but not used, can be stored in batteries and depended upon to supply, when other systems fail or are cut. It can also be used to supply areas that are "off grid".

Solar energy is, more and more, viable for both residential and commercial use. It is a particularly successful way to power water pumps in rural areas, increasing crop yields and, in poorer countries, supplying access to priceless, clean water.

- Sustainable

Fossil fuels are going to run out. Experts have predicted the world´s oil reserves will last only 27 years, gas 40 years and coal 70 years. Which means that energy costs will continue to rise, for everyone, until these energy systems are just not viable.

The sun is going to be around for significantly longer!

- Moral

Simply put... We owe it to the Earth and to ourselves. Since the industrial revolution we have been polluting the Earth, stripping its natural resources and harming and killing the planets life forces, including ourselves. Surely IT IS TIME TO STOP!
