New Property | La Perla- A luxury home with a fascinating history.

La Perla- A beautiful property with a lot of stories to tell!

Jacaranda Spain is proud to present (and we do need a drum roll for this one please!)- "La Perla" which translates as The Pearl. This magnificent property  certainly lives up to its name.

The house was commissioned in the 1960´s for, rumour has it, the Mayor of Valencia. The current owner, Loulou, is a lovely lady with lots of stories to tell. Loulou, originally from England, has had a fascinating career in interior design. She has worked for Harvey Nichols and the Sultan of Brunei. A highlight in her career, was making sofas, designed exclusively, for Windsor castle and the late Queen Elizabeth.

When she took ownership of La Perla, Loulou wanted to use her knowledge and experience to create a home that was opulent and grand, yet comfortable and practical.

Although Loulou has extensively renovated the house, there are still features that were made exclusively for the original plan.  Rejas are the decorative iron screens on the outside of windows and the ones you find on this property were especially crafted, by a blacksmith, to order. They add grandeur and individuality to the outside facade.

The solid wood, double, entrance doors were bought after a Spanish farmer took, a very sceptical, Loulou, on an expedition through his tomato crop. There she spotted the doors, half buried and covered in mud. Loulou knew that this was treasure and proceeded to buy them on the spot, for a mutually agreeable price, after some haggling. This charming story offers us a glimpse of Loulou´s passion and sense of humour. It cannot be said however, that anything else in the house was found and haggled for in a tomato field!

The doors are perfectly suited to give an understated welcome into a house full of statements! The grand entrance hall boasts a striking mosaic inlay with a latin motto which translates to "late but brave".

It is evident on entering that the interiors were designed by an expert. The house has many statement pieces and every room has a standout, focal point. Starting with the guest cloakroom/WC, with a unique sink and tap on a decorative, antique cabinet.

The house is a remarkable mix of antique and modern styles that combine harmoniously to deliver something totally unique.

The master ensuite bathroom is blessed with a freestanding, roll top bath with claw feet. What is extraordinary about this bath is, it is carved from a single block of Italian marble, two and a half tonnes of it! Loulou explained that, after the bath was ordered and enroute from Italy, they were informed that the floor would have to be reinforced to take the weight of it!

There is extravagant indulgence throughout but as you walk around the house you begin to really appreciate the sense of peace and tranquility. The pearlescent colour palette and the sumptuous furnishings make you want to kick off your shoes and make yourself at home. This is a house that has been a family home to two little girls, now grown up and gone. The beautiful, floor to ceiling mural of a lion, was for one of the children, "just because she loved animals", particularly fitting as she´s now a zoologist!

This house has been lived in and loved dearly. Loulou hopes that whoever buys the house will make it their own and cherish it as her and her family have.

The outside spaces are just gorgeous! Your own private paradise with views to make your jaw drop, it literally "has it all". The pool and surrounding naya are stunning and a more informal naya around the corner is completely private and sheltered. The wall behind the table has a handpainted tile mural with a depiction of a group enjoying paella, dressed in the traditional Valencian clothing.

While they were renovating, an opportunity came up to acquire a neighbouring plot and the family jumped at the chance. It had been left to overgrow and, assuming it was nothing more than an addition to the garden, they set about hacking back the undergowth, only to discover the summer house. This additional plot represents a possible opportunity for the next owner. It is perfectly charming as it is and makes a perfect guest house, or it could be developed and separated again.

The stunning, landscaped gardens have been designed to create an adventure. As you make your way down the steps you find separate areas to hide, from the sun or from the world. It is easy to forget where you are in this garden. A solid wood pergola makes a perfect spot to curl up with a good book.

A bodega to store your wine doubles as a hidden wine bar to impress your guests..

This magnificent gem of a house has so much to offer.

The location is nothing short of perfect.

The outside spaces are your own personal paradise.

The interiors have, quite literally, been designed by a designer for royalty.
